Lots has happened since Hokoria was founded in 2022, but did you know that there was a (very uneventful) war with the United Kingdom?
In late July 2022, the Head of State (then the official title of the Koru) was fed up with the UK Government’s treatment of transgender people. As an LGBTQ+ identifying person themselves, their announcements and rhetoric was becoming too much. Hokoria needed to act.
The war was declared due to its “lack of sufficient services and healthcare for transgender* identifying people”.
Military recruitment
We can’t be entirely sure what happened during the war, as there are very few documents and records relating to the events, however records held by the Koru’s Office show that Aweish Military (Hokoria’s military force at the time- there is no comparable present-day agency or organisation) launched a recruitment programme.
It is possible that officials had expected to use the war as a way to recruit more people to Aweland and use the war to unite the people. Many nations have used this same tactic.
In the end, the war stopped due to a lack of anything happening and due to some criticism from others in the micronational community- where war and other ‘larpy’ behaviours can be looked down upon.
This didn’t stop the Koru from mentioning the war with the UK in a 2024 letter on behalf of Hokoria to the newly elected British Prime Minister, Sir Keir Starmer. Unsurprisingly, no reply was given.
